Dr Weingarten performs laser surgery for glaucoma treatment. He uses the Lumenis SLT in his Rochester office. SLT (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty) has been shown to deliver powerful intraocular pressure reduction without causing any thermal damage. It can be used as primary therapy or as adjunctive to medical treatment. The majority of glaucoma patients have been shown to be noncompliant with taking their glaucoma prescriptions. SLT has been shown to reduce patient dependence on topical medications and save them money. If you live in the Detroit Metropolitan area (Rochester, Auburn Hills, Lake Orion, Troy, Bloomfield Hills, Utica, Sterling Heights) and are interested in finding out if you’re a candidate for SLT treatment, call our office at 248-650-2255 for a glaucoma evaluation.

Glaucoma the Silent Thief of Sight

Glaucoma the Silent Thief of Sight

Glaucoma is a leading cause of preventable blindness. It’s estimated that millions of people have glaucoma and are unaware of it. That’s because glaucoma usually does not cause any pain or any other noticeable symptoms. Although most glaucoma cannot be cured, it can be detected early and controlled.

Rochester Eye Care has a comfortable and rapid test called the GDxVCC that can detect glaucoma early before patients experience any vision loss. The test is performed very easily by simply looking into an instrument and looking at a comfortable light. The GDxVCC acquires an image of the optic nerve and retina in the back of the eye in less than a minute. It measures the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer which is recognized as one of the most sensitive means to detect glaucoma. Dr Mark Weingarten is a board certified ophthalmologist and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. He has helped numerous people throughout Michigan and the Detroit Metropolitan area. If you would like to consult with Dr Weingarten for a glaucoma evaluation, call our office at 248-650-2255 and schedule an appointment.
