A recent retrospective study by Dr. Neuhann and colleagues (Ocular Surgery News 2/10/11) showed that the risk for retinal detachment in high myopes following cataract surgery is identical to the risk for spontaneous retinal detachment in high myopes. This is reassuring for these patients who are considering cataract surgery so that they will not be so afraid of having the surgery.
