Ophthalmologist

What is an Ophthalmologist?

When you are looking for a physician or surgeon, it is important to make sure they are qualified to do the job. An ophthalmologist is trained to treat medical and surgical diseases of the eye, as well as provide routine eye examinations. An ophthalmologist is required to have completed four or more years of college with a premedical education, four years of medical school, and a one-year internship and there are more years of specialized medical and surgical training in the management of eye disease. This extensive training provides an ophthalmologist with the knowledge and experience to diagnose and treat all types of eye disorders. Most ophthalmologists are affiliated or on staff at a local hospital and do consultations and eye surgery there.
